Narrative Recap
The session opened mid-crisis on the logging road outside Waymoot, with Gorlog and Wicket aboard the Greasy Spoon facing four of Silas's thugs — two flanking the wagon, two emerging from the treeline — while Silas himself lurked unseen in the forest. Julian Pendergast, the Gilded Ladle auditor who had just awarded the wagon a seal of adequacy, revealed himself as an unexpected ally when the thugs turned on the party, drawing his ornate silver greataxe — the Critic's Choice — and dispatching two thugs with lethal precision before the rest of the crew had even swung a meaningful blow. Silas made one cowardly stab at Wicket from the treeline, missed, and used a bonus action to disengage and retreat, disappearing into the woods. Gorlog grappled the final conscious thug, Wicket finished off another, and the surviving thug — having cried out fruitlessly for Silas and received only silence — attempted to flee before being tripped by Wicket and force-fed some of Gorlog's food. Harold the Kingsguard arrived with a dozen loggers just as the fight concluded, demanding an accounting of the 'treachery.'
Meanwhile, Skrit and Sanji had been in Silas's office at the Cupped Axe, where Sanji handed over her entire gold supply to Skrit after a deeply confused economics lesson that devolved into Skrit accidentally explaining the hide-tanning process and reducing Sanji to tears. The two then set off down the logging road to reunite with the rest of the crew, passing the time discussing soap and fur-care routines. Skrit rolled a 17 perception and faintly heard the sounds of fighting ahead, though Sanji was too distracted to notice anything.
When Skrit and Sanji arrived at the wagon, the scene was: one injured thug on the ground, Pendergast impeccable in white silk, and Wicket making a statement to Harold. Skrit, grown momentarily comfortable in his crew's company and forgetting his station in the world, reached up and rubbed Pendergast's pristine silken robes. Pendergast immediately struck him for six points of bludgeoning damage. Sanji, unfazed, then walked up and touched the robe herself — Pendergast swung at her, she used her monk deflection and redirected the force back into his own face. This enraged Pendergast entirely. He attacked Sanji twice with the Critic's Choice for a combined 19 points of damage, while Skrit responded with a Draconic Cry and a failed stab. Wicket used the distraction to pickpocket Pendergast's inspection ledger. As Harold and the loggers looked on in bewilderment, Pendergast used his action to activate a special ability called Cease and Desist, forcing Gorlog, Skrit, and Wicket to make DC 14 wisdom saves. All three failed and became restrained until the end of their next turns. The session ended on this cliffhanger, with three party members frozen, Sanji bloodied and holding her action, Harold approaching with the logging crew, and Silas having vanished into the King's Forest.
The party holds Silas's payment ledger from the Cupped Axe as physical evidence of his payments to Constable Plum, but they now face an injured, furious government auditor, a confused Kingsguard, and no obvious legal protection.
Player Decisions
Chose to take the payment ledger from Silas's office to show to Wicket rather than Foreman Kaelin, citing distrust of the Foreman.
After finding the ledger in Silas's locked desk, Skrit weighed his options for who to bring the evidence to.
The party now holds the ledger as evidence, but it has not yet been presented to any authority.
Reached up and rubbed Julian Pendergast's pristine white silk robes.
Arriving at the scene of the road ambush aftermath, Skrit approached Pendergast with curiosity and complimented the fabric while touching it.
Pendergast struck Skrit for 6 points of bludgeoning damage and initiated a second combat encounter.
Used Draconic Cry as a bonus action and attempted to stab Pendergast with his kitchen knife after Sanji was bloodied.
Sanji took 19 points of damage from Pendergast and declared he was trying to steal her pelt. Skrit interpreted this as Pendergast attacking his pack.
Attack missed. Skrit failed the subsequent Cease and Desist wisdom save and is restrained at session end.
Deliberately touched Pendergast's robes after watching Skrit get struck for doing so.
Skrit had just been hit and apologized. Sanji, apparently undeterred, replicated the action to see what would happen.
Pendergast attacked her. She successfully deflected the attack and redirected force into his own face, further enraging him.
Held her action to deflect if Pendergast attacked her again.
After taking 19 points of damage across two hits from Pendergast, Sanji chose to stand her ground rather than attack or flee.
Pendergast used Cease and Desist instead of attacking, so the held action was not triggered.
Pickpocketed Pendergast's inspection ledger during the second combat.
Pendergast was engaged in combat with Sanji. Wicket used his action to attempt sleight of hand.
Successfully stole the ledger (rolled 22 vs passive perception). The party now holds Pendergast's official inspection records.
Stabbed Thug 3 in the neck after Gorlog released him from a grapple.
Gorlog had grappled the thug to interrogate him. Wicket climbed the cart to be eye-level and stabbed him, then announced he was sorry for stabbing him.
Thug 3 was heavily injured and attempted to flee. Wicket tripped him as an opportunity attack reaction.
Attempted to non-lethally grapple and intimidate the last thug rather than kill him, and retreated into the wagon when the second combat broke out.
Gorlog wanted information from the thug and made clear he was not a killer. When the Pendergast conflict erupted, Gorlog withdrew to the wagon.
Thug 3 fled. Gorlog failed his Cease and Desist wisdom save and is restrained at session end.

Cliffhangers
- Three party members (Gorlog, Skrit, Wicket) are restrained by Pendergast's Cease and Desist, with combat still active next session.
- Pendergast's Cease and Desist did not recharge — his most powerful ability is spent but he still has the Critic's Choice and two attacks.
- Harold and a dozen loggers are on-scene and have witnessed the party fighting a king's Senior Auditor — their reaction is unknown.
- Silas has fled into the King's Forest and his next move is unresolved.
- Wicket is holding Pendergast's stolen inspection ledger — Pendergast does not yet know it is missing.
- Sanji is at approximately 5 hit points and is the only unrestrained party member.
Plot Threads This Session
Pendergast revealed himself as a genuine, powerful combatant who takes the Gilded Ladle's mandate extremely seriously. He fought on the party's side against Silas's thugs once the Greasy Spoon passed its audit, but turned hostile when Skrit soiled his robes and Sanji redirected an attack back at him. The session ended with Pendergast having used Cease and Desist to restrain three party members, Wicket in possession of Pendergast's inspection ledger, and Harold and loggers witnessing the chaos. Pendergast's relationship with the party is now actively adversarial.
Silas directly ordered the road ambush, directing his thugs to disable rather than destroy the wagon. He personally attempted one attack on Wicket before retreating cowardly into the King's Forest and going silent when his surviving thug called for him. Skrit and Sanji retrieved his payment ledger from the Cupped Axe as physical evidence. Wicket publicly named Silas to Harold at the scene of the ambush.
The party's legal situation grew more complicated. The Writ of Provisioning and Gilded Ladle seal were meant to offer protection, but the party is now in combat with a Senior Auditor who is also a king's representative, watched by a Kingsguard and a dozen loggers. Skrit explicitly does not trust Foreman Kaelin and chose not to take the evidence to him.
Skrit took custody of Sanji's gold, explaining (poorly) the concept of currency to her. He retrieved Silas's ledger from the Cupped Axe. In the combat with Pendergast, he used Draconic Cry to give allies advantage and attempted to stab Pendergast after Sanji was bloodied, demonstrating pack loyalty. He failed his wisdom save against Cease and Desist and is restrained at session end.
Sanji handed over her gold to Skrit after an economics lesson she did not understand. She deliberately touched Pendergast's robes to see what would happen, successfully deflected his attack back into his face, and took 19 points of damage across two subsequent hits. She ended the session holding her action in anticipation of another attack, bloodied but unbroken.
