Skrit investigated the burrow tunnel and, following a whiff of turnip mash, crawled deep into the hole and recovered a mud-and-mash mixture — circumstantial evidence suggesting Silas had been baiting the ankhegs into the trench. Gorlog confirmed the flavor, the party debated the significance, and ultimately decided to present the evidence to Foreman Kaelin alongside the meat. They loaded the unconscious ankheg onto the driver's bench between Skrit and Wickett, positioning it as if it were driving, and headed back toward Waymoot.

Their return was met with a cheer from the assembled townsfolk and a grimacing near-smile from Foreman Kaelin on his balcony. The celebration turned chaotic when Skrit, swept up in the excitement of the crowd's applause, shoved the unconscious ankheg off the bench — waking it. Sanji leapt off the wagon roof and knocked it unconscious again, but not before it terrified the town square. Kaelin was displeased. After Gorlog served the crowd ankheg po' boys to middling reception — a 9 on his performance roll — Sanji's enthusiastic vegetarian tirade made things actively worse, causing most loggers to stop eating. Silas appeared in the doorway of the Cupped Axe to heckle the party, calling Skrit a 'scale skin' and darkly warning that he had 'people coming.' Kaelin formally presented the Writ of Provisioning, declaring the party Waymoot blood and putting them nominally beyond the reach of Splinter's Bend law. Sanji's sharp eyes caught Silas passing a small wooden box to a rider who slipped out a side gate.

The party split. Gorlog and Wickett rode out with the logging crew and Kaelin, while Skrit and Sanji stayed in town. On the logging road, Gorlog and Wickett spoke with Harold, a Kingsguard posted to Waymoot as punishment for illegal gambling — a man with no love for Silas and a strong desire to return to his wife and three kids in Waterdeep. They planted the seed that solid evidence of Silas's sabotage might be enough to earn Harold a ticket home. Shortly after, the logging convoy was halted by Julian Pendergast, Senior Auditor for the Royal Order of the Gilded Ladle, who had set up a pristine white pavilion tent in the middle of the road to perform a field audit of the Greasy Spoon. A tense but ultimately successful skills challenge followed, with Wickett counterbalancing the damaged wagon wheel using the dead ankheg as ballast, Gorlog impressing Pendergast with plating and successfully explaining the aged tuna as a regional delicacy, and Wickett saving the day with a sleight-of-hand clean when a mud ball came flying through the serving window. Pendergast awarded the Greasy Spoon his Gilded Ladle seal of compliance.

Meanwhile, Skrit and Sanji broke into the Cupped Axe, found Silas's private office, smashed open a locked desk drawer with a crowbar and Sanji's back kick, and discovered a ledger recording payments to Constable Barnaby Plum to keep competing supply caravans out of Waymoot. They also recovered the missing aged tuna — hidden in Silas's desk — and noted three bottles labeled Splinter's Bend Reserve. The session ended on a split-screen cliffhanger: on the logging road, Silas's 'sous-thugs' dropped their disguises and leveled spears at the Greasy Spoon just as Pendergast awarded the Greasy Spoon his Gilded Ladle seal; back in town, Skrit and Sanji stood in a smashed-up dark office holding damning evidence.
