Narrative Recap
The session opened with a record-scratch cold open narrated by Ledger the giant badger, who described the chaotic scene from his perspective: a food truck called the Greasy Spoon airborne over the cobblestones of Splinter's Bend, its mismatched crew in various states of crisis. The players then rewound the clock sixty seconds to reconstruct how the chaos began. Constable Barnaby Plum, a petty and well-connected town authority figure, had been harassing Skrit — a small kobold who stood out in the town — along with his goon squad. Sanji intervened by confronting the goons and goading Barnaby, while Wickett snuck behind him and dropped a cold fish down his armor. The combination of Sanji's bo staff distraction and the fish tumbling out of Barnaby's armor made it appear as though the Constable had given birth to a dead fish — to the delight of the gathered crowd. Enraged and humiliated, Barnaby began escalating, and Gorlog (Tiny) seized the moment by yeeting Sanji and Skrit into the Greasy Spoon and ordering Ledger to bolt. The party careened through the town streets in a skill-challenge getaway: Wickett rode Ledger to scatter a flock of dire geese blocking the road, Sanji used her whip to upend a tangerine cart and scatter rolling fruit under the hooves of mounted guards, Gorlog flung a failed batch of soup out the back (accidentally missing the road due to the dragged tangerine cart), and Skrit grabbed an unlabeled liquid from the wagon's stores — ingredient, stove fuel, or possibly both — coated his ball bearings in it and deployed them behind the wagon — inadvertently igniting a stretch of cobblestone in eerie green flames. The guards scattered, the gate was left unguarded, and Ledger barreled out of Splinter's Bend and into the King's Forest.
Deep in the forest on a logging road, Ledger came to a sudden halt at a makeshift barricade in a ravine, where a bickering two-headed Ettin — Gorg and Borg — blocked their path. Rather than fight, the party attempted to satisfy the Ettin's competing culinary demands: Gorg wanted something bloody and meaty, while Borg craved something sweet and carb-heavy. Sanji distracted the two heads by engaging them in conversation, Skrit attempted to hype the forthcoming meal using a Channel Divinity-boosted persuasion (the heads refocused their hunger on the cart instead), Wickett performed a theatrical 'order up' call using food-truck lingo that delighted the Ettin, and Gorlog prepared a dish improvised on the spot — 'Two Heads, One Belly' — finishing just in time. Wickett delivered the bowls with a dramatic flourish, and the Ettin wandered back up the ravine wall bickering over each other's portions.
With the barricade dismantled and then cleverly rebuilt behind them as a passive defense, the party pushed further down the road before making camp for the night. Around the fire, the group shared their first real introductions over bowls of Two Heads, One Belly — learning each other's names, that Skrit has no given name in common tongue (only a Draconic word roughly meaning 'shush'), that Sanji has never traveled before and is full of restless questions, and that Gorlog quietly cherishes being wanted. The evening ended ominously: far off in the darkened forest, the baying of tracking hounds broke the quiet, suggesting that Constable Barnaby — humiliated and powerful within Splinter's Bend — had sent his hunting dogs after them. The session cut to black with the party camped in the King's Forest, hounds in the distance, and the town of Waymoot still a full night's journey away.
Player Decisions
Slipped a cold fish down Constable Barnaby's armor during the confrontation
Barnaby and his goons were harassing Skrit; Wickett faded into the crowd and chose to provoke rather than de-escalate
Publicly humiliated Barnaby, escalating the confrontation into a full chase and making him a persistent enemy
Intervened in the harassment of Skrit by confronting the goons directly
Barnaby's men were bullying the kobold in the street; Sanji pushed through the crowd to ask why
Drew Barnaby's full attention onto herself and the group; her bo staff distraction gave Wickett the opening to deposit the fish — the two actions were independent, but their coincidental combination made it look like Barnaby had given birth
Grabbed Sanji and Skrit and yeeted them into the wagon, ordering Ledger to flee
Barnaby was escalating toward violence; Gorlog recognized the moment had passed for peaceful resolution
Triggered the getaway chase sequence; the party successfully escaped Splinter's Bend
Deployed oil-coated ball bearings behind the fleeing wagon
During the getaway, mounted guards were closing in; Skrit grabbed an unlabeled liquid from the food wagon's stores — unclear whether it's an ingredient, stove fuel, or (knowing Gorlog) possibly both — and coated his ball bearings in it
The oil ignited from a horseshoe spark, setting the street ablaze in green flames and clearing the pursuing guards — though the tangerine cart was destroyed in the process
Rebuilt the Ettin's barricade after passing through the ravine
After satisfying Gorg and Borg and clearing the road, Wickett suggested replacing the barricade to slow any pursuers
The Ettin will be appreciative if encountered again; any pursuit from Splinter's Bend will be slowed by the same obstacle
Chose to stay with the party rather than leave when the cart stopped at the Ettin blockade
Skrit had been trying to find a moment to separate from strangers he'd been pulled along with; Gorlog explicitly invited him to stay
Skrit is now traveling with the party toward Waymoot

Memorable Quotes
Ledger (narrating): 'We got no permits, we're almost out of gold, and about three seconds before gravity kicks back in. Welcome to the King's Forest. I think I'm gonna need a bigger nap.'
Sanji: 'Well, this man was so scared that he shit a fish.' (to the crowd, explaining why Barnaby appeared to give birth to a dead fish)
Gorlog: 'Best food you've ever eaten!' / Wickett: 'Today.' (Wickett immediately adding the legal disclaimer)
Cliffhangers
- Tracking hounds are heard in the distance as the party camps in the King's Forest, suggesting Constable Barnaby's pursuit has not ended
- The party will not reach Waymoot before dawn, leaving them exposed in the forest overnight with a potential threat closing in
Plot Threads This Session
The party made a powerful enemy of Constable Barnaby Plum after publicly humiliating him and fleeing his guards. Barnaby has sent tracking hounds after them, heard in the distance as the session ended. The party is now wanted in Splinter's Bend.
The party is traveling to the logging town of Waymoot. An Ettin blockade delayed them enough that they can no longer reach the town before dawn. They have made camp for the night with hounds approaching.
Skrit, a kobold paladin with no given name, was inadvertently pulled into the Greasy Spoon during the escape and has tentatively agreed to travel with the group to the next town. By session's end he has been welcomed warmly, particularly by Gorlog, and appears to be staying on as part of the crew.
Sanji, a satyr monk with no prior travel experience, inserted herself into the conflict in Splinter's Bend out of curiosity and a sense of justice. She was swept up in the escape and, after sharing a meal with the crew, expressed excitement about traveling. She appears to be joining as waitstaff.
